Ahwatukee is a great place to live for many reasons.  It has a lot to offer when it comes to activities, social events and various professional services.  This is off our usual subject matter of everything real estate but both are worth sharing with you.  Locally there are two professionals I’d like to mention who regularly receive rave reviews from many friends and associates so I thought you might like to know about them as well.  These women are also personal friends of mine so I have first-hand experience with their knowledge and professionalism.  As a result I feel completely confident in recommending them if you’re in the market for a new exercise regime or searching for the latest in total skin care.

If you’re looking for a different form of exercise and like to dance, try the line dancing class at Pecos Community Center taught by Carrie McNeish.  Carrie has the energy of about 10 people so you’re sure to have fun and there’s no lack of entertainment when Carrie has the floor!  As she describes it, line dancing is a “no partner required” dance class where she utilizes her group fitness instructor background to keep the class continually moving so you burn more calories while learning the dances.  The class is low impact “interval” style as far as the cardiovascular workout goes and she estimates that you burn approximately 7 calories/minute (420 calories per hour) on average for the whole class.  This number can vary depending on how you choose to dance in the class too.  If this sounds like something you’d like to learn more about call Carrie at 480-221-9090 or at cmcneish@cox.net.

In last week’s Ahwatukee Foothills News (AFN) you may have caught the article on Cleo’s Skin Care, newly opened by local Michelle Williams.  Michelle has been in the skin care business for more than 15 years and began building Cleo’s Skin Care facilities in 1995. Back then she was an electrolysis and permanent makeup technician but as her knowledge and expertise has expanded she’s broadened her services to include both of those services plus facials, body treatments, microdermabrasion, peels, acne treatment, oxygenating treatment, firming treatment, lash and brow tinting and spider vein treatment.  Michelle had a breadth of knowledge in anti-aging treatments and has a calming personality that makes the experience that much more enjoyable.  To reach Michelle for a free initial skin consultation call her at (480) 282-2522.  Here’s the full article from AFN in case you missed it! http://www.ahwatukee.com/articles/skin_2138___article.html/williams_care.html

By using a dresser or bookshelf you can achieve the look of custom built-in cabinets without the expense.

In the remodeled bathroom that’s shown, drawers and open shelving replaced a once cramped shower stall.  The owners enlarged the shower by eliminating the tub and shifting the shower into its space.  They then converted the former stall into useful storage using a chest of drawers & bookshelf from Ikea and some moulding.

The owners picked a chest of drawers that fit into the space with a few inches to spare then the moulding was added to the sides and bottom to give it a finished look.  The same was done with the bookshelf then the top of the chest was finished with slate tile to match the counters and a couple coats of paint completed the look.  The roomy drawers added much needed storage space and the shelves a great place to stash towels and display family photos.  It’s a very clean look and relatively inexpensive to achieve.

Do you have a helpful remodeling idea you’d like to share?  Email me at jilll@tukeehomes.com  and we’ll be sure to include it on the blog!

Relocating to another city?  Here’s a helpful article from CNN Money with a few nifty websites to check out.  Even if you’re not moving it’s fun to look at your home using the satellite maps.

Zillow is one of the sites listed and while it can be a helpful tool to get a ballpark price of your home, it’s not always accurate.  If you’re seriously thinking about selling, call me.  I’ll run a Comparative Market Analysis and give you a true value of what your house is worth in today’s fluctuating market.
